A private seaside home in Georgetown, Maine is the setting for an elegant woodland wedding. Bride and groom, Erin and Brendan, created a magnificent display of old world charm surrounded by family and friends.
It’s not often that I have the chance to work outside Massachusetts, so when the call came to do a site visit at a private home on the island of Georgetown, Maine early last January, I jumped at the opportunity. This venue is what storybook dreams are made of: a secluded stretch of land ending in a point overlooking the ocean, organic fruit and vegetable gardens dotted throughout the landscape, a stunning home with matching views, and a magnificent barn.
Erin, the bride: “The day of my wedding, our head caterer emailed us to say she wasn’t coming due to a family emergency. Susan and co. stepped in and managed the kitchen staff and servers in addition to the overseeing they had originally been assigned. The highest praise I can give them is that I wasn’t aware at all of the chaos going on behind the scenes. Everything went very smoothly – on time and effortless. The best part was that my parents, parents-in-law, and my husband and I got to thoroughly enjoy the day and literally had nothing to worry about. Susan’s attention to detail is impeccable and I would highly recommend her for event planning and (unobtrusive) very effective event management.”
Mother of the Bride: “Susan did an excellent job of connecting with all of our many vendors (it was a home wedding in Maine with lots of moving parts!), suggesting ways to make the day be just what we hoped it would be, and filling in details that might have been over looked. She ran the show on the day of and came to our rescue when the caterer fell down on the job. She and her assistant literally saved the day! Neither the bride and groom or any of our guests knew of any issues with the food and service because Susan was able to jump in to get everything back on track. I have used Susan for catering many times over the years and have highly recommended her to many people, but she out-did herself on this event. Highly recommend!”
While guests feasted on fabulous hors d’oeuvres like Tempura Squash Blossoms with Lobster and Café Lemon Ricotta, and Slow Roasted Pork Belly on edible spoons… specialty drinks were served: a Blushing Bride Blackberry with gin, lime juice, turbinado sugar and muddled fresh mint and blackberries and the grooms favorite- a kamikaze served in a tiny mason jar, nicknamed “Cold Feet Kicker”!
After cocktails, a bagpiper guided guests down the road to the reception barn and tent. Entering the tent, they would be welcomed by a mix of rectangular wood farm tables from New England Country Rentals and rounds covered in Kelly white linen over ivory peau de soie from Tabletoppers of Newton. The tablescapes included a mix of hurricaine lanterns, vintage silver floral arrangements containing peonies, astilbe, snap dragons, ranunculus, sweet peas, thyme, sage and succulents; and decorative glass and wire votives.
Guests feasted on Rack of Lamb and Pan Roasted Salmon and finished the evening off with a fabulous dessert station of hand held pies and an ice cream bar. Dancing followed with music by Wavelength, an energetic band playing a mix of top 40 hits, classic rock and Motown.
